Lagan premiered in 2011 at the Oval House, and there is currently no evidence of another full/professional production of the play since that time. With such a short production history I tried to find connections between the reviews available to me that would be helpful when considering our production.

The play was performed with four actors, dressed the same, playing the ten characters. The reviews mention that watching the versatility of each actor was part of the fun in the performance, however the audience seemed to get lost within the language. Activating the poetry may be helpful and potentially utilizing silence could be helpful in keeping audiences engaged and prevent them from getting lost in the language.

The seamless and fluid nature of Gregg's writing is something that makes the play unique and staging the play with this in mind is playing to one of the play's strengths. In all of the reviews the themes that resonate the strongest is: 1- the characters of the play carry Belfast (their home) wherever they go and 2- the city itself, like it's inhabitants, are being pulled back by the past while also moving into an unknowable future.
